About The Role
We are seeking a talented and dedicated full-time Web Developer, Graphic Designer, and Document Accessibility Specialist to join our team. In this multifaceted role, you will be responsible for supporting and maintaining the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) website, ensuring it remains functional, accessible, and visually engaging. Your primary focus will be on developing new website features, remediating documents to meet accessibility standards, and providing technical support. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in web development, graphic design, and document accessibility compliance, with the ability to collaborate across teams to deliver high-quality digital solutions. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a state-level educational platform, ensuring it is accessible and user-friendly for all stakeholders.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or a related field
Two (2) to three (3) years of professional design experience
Strong portfolio demonstrating creative work and technical skills
Proficiency in HTML, JavaScript, and CSS
Knowledge of current developments in Information Technology
Understanding of WCAG 2.1 AA, PDF/UA (ISO 14289), Section 508, and ADA Title II standards
Experience in document remediation for PDFs, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files
Experience with Adobe products such as Acrobat Pro, Photoshop, and InDesign
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Knowledge of multimedia programming and content management systems
Responsibilities
Develop and implement the visual design, layout, and features of the ALSDE website as specified by stakeholders
Provide ongoing support and maintenance services for the existing ALSDE website
Design and develop new website functionalities to enhance user experience and accessibility
Remediate PDF documents, Word files, Excel spreadsheets, and PowerPoint presentations to meet WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA and PDF/UA standards
Write, edit, and update website content to ensure clarity and accuracy
Troubleshoot and resolve code issues related to website functionality and accessibility
Train team members and stakeholders on website features and accessibility best practices
Prepare comprehensive documentation for website features, processes, and remediation procedures
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with accessibility standards and project requirements
Design webpage layouts that are visually appealing and user-friendly
Perform other related professional services such as content management, problem-solving, and multimedia integration as needed
